Highlight: Zen in the ice rift is one of the three projects supported by the prestigious program Biennale College Cinema 2017/2018. Produced by Articolture, the production company behind The Asteroids (Locarno 2017).

Zen, a 16-year-old tomboy living in a small village on top of the Italian Apennines, is the only girl of the local ice hockey-team and is constantly bullied by her teammates for her masculine attitude. When Vanessa, the beautiful and dazed girlfriend of the team captain, runs away from home and hides in Zen‘s family lodge, they both embark on a journey of self-discovery, exploring their inner desires and their identity.

Director Biography:
Margherita Ferri attended UCLA School of Film and TV and studied under acclaimed director Paolo Sorrentino at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. She has worked for over a decade in the film industry as Production Assistant, Second Assistant Director and Camera Operator. Margherita has directed documentaries as well as short films. Zen in the Ice Rift is her debut feature 

Director Statement:
The restlessness of being an outsider as a teenager, the magic of being attracted to a girl without knowing what is happening or even how to name those feelings, the desire to be seen and accepted for who I am: these emotions are the very essence of my life as a teenager and of the film.
The deep connection between my characters and their environment is the base of the visual approach. 

Cast Biography:
Eleonora Conti and Susanna Acchiardi, the protagonists of the film, make their acting debut in Zen in the Ice Rift. Director Margherita Ferri discovered the two actresses after witnessing their innate acting chops during a casting session at a local school.

Fabrizia Sacchi is an Italian actress and producer born in Naples. She is known for her work in Paz! by Renato De Maria (2002) and The First Beautiful Thing by Paolo Virzì (2010). In 2013 she was nominated to the David di Donatello for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in A Five Star Life by Maria Sole Tognazzi and will star in the upcoming Suspiria by Luca Guadagnino.
