SYNOPSIS
You live a quiet life with your family, surviving the everyday problems of a poor neighbourhood in Brazil... Your new neighbours sleep all day and party all night long. They receive visitors from the criminal underworld… Would you set against them or would you watch a foreseen crime happening next door?
DIRECTOR´S STATEMENT
In the centre of the film we have life depicted through a family man’s daily concerns. The only wish of the protagonist, a low class worker, is to have a quiet life with his family. What I call a “happy slave”, without any kind of social awareness or revolutionary spirit.
In order to conceive cinematically such an ordinary drama I took advantage of classical thriller’s techniques. Whereas the tension arises, the expectation regarding the narrative also arises, attaching the audience to the screen, while nothing concrete happens.
The situations can point at the some time to diametrical opposite directions. Therefore, both protagonist and the audience find each other in conflict with reality. Every movement can be nothing but a false movement.
DIRECTOR´S BIOGRAPHY
Sergio Bianchi, born in 1945 in Ponta Grossa-Paraná and resident in São Paulo since 1968, began his career with work in film and photography in 1972. Since then he directed the features MALDITA COINCENCIA (1979), ROMANCE (1988), A CAUSA SECRETA (1994), CRONICAMENTE INVIAVEL (2000) and QUANTO VALE OU É POR QUILO? (2005). The feature film OS INQUILINOS (THE TENANTS) is his latest work.

Actor who began at the theater, then went to soap operas and series on television and nowadays has a solid career on Brazilian cinema.
Iara: Ana Carbatti
She was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1969, began her career as an actress through television’s soap operas going later to work with cinema. She has a previous experience with director Sergio Bianchi at the movie “Quanto vale ou é por quilo?”.
Dimas: Umberto Magnani
He was born in 1941 in the countryside of the state of São Paulo. He has more than 30 years of experience as an actor, having played widely famous roles on soap operas, plays and movies. He also has a previous experience with director Sergio Bianchi both on “Quanto vale ou é por quilo?” and Chronically Unfeasible.
