SYNOPSIS
A romantic comedy about Inge, a 28 year-old beautiful, charming girl, who dreams about singing and creating her own programs in a private radio, where she works as an impressionist and dubbingactress. But she can’t express herself. Her entire work is a substitute for real creativity. Just when she finds her life empty, in the middle of the day she gets a bunch of flowers in the street from a handsome stranger, Peter. He kisses her and walks on. She is so shocked that she can’t say a word. Worse even she’s loses her voice entirely.
Inge in her attempts firstly hides her affliction as neither the radio nor the studio need a mute and secondly to recover her voice. The doctors find her an astounding case, since her vocal cords are all right. So her problem must be psychological. Inge undergoes a number of psychotherapies, tries yoga, and choreotherapy. There she meets Aga. As none of the therapies help Aga enlightens Inge that she should find the stranger and reconstruct what happened in that very place. The problem is how to find the stranger and to get him to repeat the same gesture exactly one month later. Inge starts searching…
Peter is a shy single and dedicated to his passion: drawing comics, illustrations for children's books and designing clothes. He works on a new cartoon story about a super heroine, but he can’t visualize her features…until he accidentally meets a stranger - Inge. Only Peter’s niece discovers in his atelier that his drawings of the superwoman have finally taken on recognizable features, which means he must be in love with the woman, who has those features.
Will they finally meet? Will they discover that they are in loved? Will Inge recover her voice? Will Peter and Inge discover their true selves and the courage to love?
DIRECTOR'S BIOGRAPHY
Graduated from the Adam Mickiewicz University, the Łódź Film School, the NSFTV in Leeds, England, and in 2007 EAVE producers workshop, Ewa Pytka founded Python Studioss Ltd. in 2006. She worked as an author of many creative documentaries, has directed the TV mini-series YOU WILL BE MINE!, many episodes of the Presbytery fiction series and TV theatres: WINTER UNDER THE TABLE by Roland Topor and OPERATION HEAD by Wlodzimierz Kuligowski. In 2010 she scripted, directed and produced the magic comedy SILENCE IS GOLDEN. It is her feature fiction debut.
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
SILENCE IS GOLDEN is a very personal story about the world of a woman who lost, and is trying to regain her voice. It is a journey within in the physical sense, because the protagonist loses her voice and cannot continue her work at the radio, but also in the metaphorical sense, because in the silence she attempts to listen to herself and others. By undergoing various treatments she seeks to find the path to herself and the world which she is trying to understand and rebuild anew. It is a story about regaining identity and searching for our other half. It is like Amelia’s story told by Woody Allen, with his contemporary anxieties and desperate clinging to various modern forms of psychotherapy, from choreotherapy to magic. But only opening to love and magic can return the protagonist to her own self.
